New! 3-day a week watering is official

The Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) has announced their offical plan and the 3-Day a week watering plan is kicking into high gear. We believe this is great news for Northern Nevadans and their landscapes. What this means to you is you can now water deeper and less often. As their web site states and we heartily agree, watering spread over this additional day will build stronger roots and a develop a much healthier lawn.

Our studies show that metered customers will most likely use the same amount of
water over three days as they used in two days.

If the last number of your home or business address is:

  • Odd (1, 3, 5, 7 or 9), water only on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • Even (0, 2, 4, 6 or 8), water only on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
  • No watering on Mondays. It gives the water system a chance to recharge.
  • No watering between noon and 6 p.m. from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Because TMWA has met their community conservation agreement to meter the water system, they can now offer customers the fexibility of watering up to three assigned days per week. As always, responsible water use is a must!

On your watering days, water until puddles form, then stop and wait for the water to soak in, about 1-2 hours. Repeat until water reaches 6-8 inches deep, which you can determine by easily pushing a screwdriver into the soil.

Hand Water Any Time
Hand water vegetables, flowers, trees and shrubs any day of the week.
